Summer Farm Camp

by Cornelia

We have just finished our two Ériu Summer Farm Camps, where children aged 6 to 11 years joined farm life for 3 days each camp. They got to know the cows and calves, helped with milking and with bringing the cows to the fields for grazing and tasted the very fresh milk straight from the cow. We made cheese, harvested some vegetables and herbs and cooked lunches on the open fire. Playing in the stream, singing and playing music, games, story time and crafts were also part of the day.

The aim of the camps is to give children the opportunity to connect to nature, get real impressions of the warmth of fire, the power of water, wind and all the life in the soil, to experience farm life and through that develop an awareness of where food comes from and how valuable it is.
